Providing Help and Creating Hope.

This is a powerful direction for Catholic Charities and one that is increasingly important as more and more people are impacted by the struggling economy. With scarce resources and more needs, we are, in many ways, at a crossroads in our community and our country. We face choices that will determine how we now and in the future regard the least among us and how we as a society provide for people’s basic needs of food, shelter and health care.

Catholic Charities has grown tremendously over the past three years to meet increasing demand for our services, yet we know, from our friends and supporters in the parishes, there is more we can and should be doing. Just look at the street corners in Austin and other cities; the number of people seeking help has increased. The number of people using our food pantry has risen dramatically since the beginning of last fiscal year.

Together, we must address the very real issue of how we as a society will meet everyone’s basic needs; as a Church, we must help the poor and vulnerable. And every day, one person at a time, we must continue to put Christ’s compassion into action by reaching out to serve those in need and by speaking out on behalf of those who often go unheard.

While we face changes all around us, our dedication to serving our brothers and sisters in need is unwavering.
